In her years of marriage before her husband died, Laura Beth Yoder has wanted a child, but she was never blessed with one. Desperate for a child, she decides to leave her Amish community in Kansas and move to one in Ohio where there are more eligible Amish men to marry. But before she can make moving plans or sell her farm, a storm ravages the community and an English man, Joshua King, becomes trapped in a river in his car with his baby, Caleb. Laura Beth rescues him and his baby, and gives them refuge at her house.
Joshua’s estranged wife has just died revealing they have a baby son. As her final wish, she wants Joshua to take the baby to her parents and have them raise him, who are Amish. As Joshua gets to know Laura Beth, he starts to question his plans on giving up his baby to his in-laws. He also starts to develop feelings for Laura Beth. But he left the Amish faith years ago. There is not future with Laura Beth, but is it possible he could change his mind about his Amish faith? And Laura Beth is developing feelings for Joshua as well. But what about her plans to move to Ohio to find a husband? And Joshua is not Amish anymore. Can they really have a future together?
This was a sweet Amish romance with a mix of some suspense. The only weakness of the story was the revelation Joshua discovered about his mom. I thought that revelation was not very realistic, but it was a small part of the story. Overall, though, I thought it was very enjoyable. I highly recommend it.
