State: Idaho
On her way home from attending a literacy group meeting, Charlotte Halstead is almost kidnapped. Bounty hunter Wade Fast Horse rescues her. Charlotte was mistaken for her twin, Dinah Halstead, who has a long history of drug problems and borrowing moeny from unsavory characters. They are both daughters of parents who own a luxury resort in rural Idaho. They come from money and their celebrity status in the community makes it difficult for Dinah to behave the way she does. Matters become even more complicated when Dinah goes missing and Charlotte becomes the target of a professional hitman. Charlotte is then framed for embezzling money from her parents’ comapny. Is this just about drugs and shady loan sharks? Or is there soemthing else going on? Wade is determined to protect Charlotte as they work to find the truth.
Both Wade and Charlotte develop feelings for one another. However, both of them have trust issues. Wade’s father abandoned him when he was a child and Charlotte is resentful of her family putting the business over their family. As they work together to find the truth and Dinah, they start to let go of their defenses and begin to trust one another. Is there a future for them? Can people who come from different worlds have a successful relationship?
I highly recommend this book. The romance between Wade and Charlotte is sweet and moving. Wade’s family of bounty hunters offers an interesting dynamic/layer for the novel. Charlotte’s family can be infuriating, but as Charlotte notes in the novel, no family is perfect. The next installment of this bounty hunter series is coming out later in the year, which I plan to review.
