Manhattans and Murder
Review of Manhattans and Murder and My Own Little Mystery
In the first novel of the Murder, She Wrote book series, Jessica witnesses the murder of a man dressed as Santa Claus. His name was Waldo Morse who Jessica knew from Cabot Cove. Jessica is trying to focus on her book tour in New York City and the holidays, but this murder unsettles her, and she commits herself to solve it. The murder case itself was interesting and I liked how Seth and Mort ended up coming to visit Jessica in New York.
However, there was an issue in this novel that bothered me. There were references in the novel of the murder of an author named Marjorie Ainsworth. She was good friends with Jessica and there were several instances to show how horrible that murder was. The problem is that there is a novel in the Murder, She Wrote series that deals with Marjorie’s death. It is book thirteen. I know this because I was looking over the list of books in the series on Penguin Random House’s website.
At least, that is what I thought until I went on Goodreads’ and Amazon’s websites. I discovered that the publisher’s website was wrong. Both Amazon and Goodreads designate Gin and Daggers as book one, which is the novel that details Marjorie’s murder. So, in fact, I had just read book two. Now, it makes sense. And it is sad that the publisher website is less accurate than Amazon. Next month, I will make sure to read Gin and Daggers.
