Taxi driver Lily Hudson picks up a passenger late one night. She turns on the radio and she hears a news report about people being on the lookout for a particular criminal. And that criminal ends up being her passenger. Lily ends up stopping her car to get away from him. She ends up being attacked by him and rescued by a young Amish widow named Matthias Overholt. Lily takes refuge in Matthias’ family’s home while she helps police find the criminal, Petee Peterson.
Additionally, Lily grew up in the area where Matthias lives. She had planned to come back to investigate an old murder case in order to clear her mother’s name. While she is doing this and trying to keep herself alive, she starts to fall in love with Matthias and his two young children. Both Lily and Matthias struggle with their feelings because Matthias is Amish and Lily is not. Can they find a way to come together? And can Lily clear her mom’s name and keep herself safe?
I thought this was an interesting novel, but the solution to the old murder case came all of a sudden at the end. The reader did not see Lily investigating that case throughly. It was a heartworming novel, but I felt it could have done a better job with the development of the mystery.
