Hunted in the Wilderness
Review of Kellie VanHorn's Christian Romantic Suspense Novel
Haley Whitcombe seems to have been lucky in life. She is next in line to take over as CEO of Whitcombe Aerotech from her father, despite the fact that she finds research and development more appealing than management. She owns an airplane that she can fly anywhere, and she often attends fancy charity events with the other rich elite in Seattle, Washington. One day, though, she finds that her co-worker, Chris Collins, is trying to take over the company from her. To do this, he frames her for the murder of a security guard. She is able to record this and hurries to leave on her plane and fly a couple of hours away to confide in her lawyer to fix this mess.
The plane, however, crashes in North Cascades National Park. It is here where she meets Ezra Dalton, a part-time park ranger who works for a section of the year as a police officer in Seattle. He is skeptical of her innocence, but he decides to at least help her reach her lawyer. Ezra is a much simpler person who finds Haley’s elite lifestyle unattractive. Through their trek in the woods, they start to warm to one another. Love starts to blossom between them, but Ezra has to safely extract Haley out of the forest to a safe location where they can clear her name before he can even think about romance.
I found this suspense an interesting one with some twists and turns that will keep the audience glued to the novel. I, though, particularly liked the spiritual transformation both characters experience in the woods. Nature becomes a place for both of them to witness how God could help them fix the errors they are making in their own lives. Nature becomes therapeutic for them and a way for them to heal, so they can handle the outside world. I highly recommend this novel.
