In addition to the novel reading I am doing, I am completing a Bible study for women called She Reads Truth. They do a study guide for each section of the Bible. Right now, we are on Hosea. They jump around the Bible and there is no particular order. Sometimes, they do themes instead of particular books. For instance, they will have an Advent study guide, which will encompass a variety of readings. Since the group is not associated with a particular branch of Christianity (although, I can tell most of them are Protestants), I do it with my Catholic Bible because they use a different Bible translation and there are differences between what Bible a Protestant and a Catholic uses. Anyway, one of the exercises in the Hosea Study Guide is to write a prayer based on Hosea 6:3. Here are the two translations of that verse:
“Let’s strive to know the Lord.
His appearance is as sure as the dawn.
He will come to us like the rain.
like the spring showers that water the land.” (Christian Standard Bible)
“Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord; his appearing is as sure as the dawn; he will come to us like the showers, like the spring rains that water the earth” (Catholic Women’s Devotional Bible, New Revised Standard Edition)
Here is the prayer I wrote:
Dear God,
Like the rain purifies the Earth, purify me in fighting the sin we all have to face. Original Sin is a scar all humans have. Please help me heal that scar on a daily basis. And by helping me face this challenge, I will not only become a better Christian, but I will grow closer to You.
Amen
