History Lost and Found is the first installment of the Secrets from Grandma’s Attic series. Tracy Doyle has recently lost her grandmother. She and her husband, Jeff, inherited her Victorian home and they are both living in this house as they gradually go through the many items that have accumulated in the attic. One day, when Tracy is looking through her grandmother’s Bible, she notices a name in her family tree, Ezekiel Collins, that she does not recognize. This starts a journey throughout the novel of trying to find out the identity of Ezekiel Collins.
Tracy is a reporter for the local paper in her hometown of Canton, Missouri. During this time, the paper receives a new Editor-in-Chief that Tracy does not like. He is trying to get more people to the paper’s website and as a result, he is encouraging more sensational journalism, which does not sit well with Tracy. It’s an interesting critique on the state of modern journalism.
The main mystery of the novel was interesting. It is mostly a historical mystery that takes the reader to different aspects of Tracy’s family tree. The reader also learns the difficult life unwed mothers could have during the World War II era.
