Cora Isaksson is part of a security team called the Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency, a group of women who handle dogs that help them with various crime fighting assignments. Cora has a golden retriever that can detect drugs. When she is on a routine drug detection assignment at the airport, she gets kidnapped by members of the cartel. DEA Special Agent Kent Thomson rescues her. He does not think much of Cora and thinks she is weak.
When Cora’s brother, Bradley, returns home, he claims that he has left the cartel behind (he used to be a drug dealer), but the cartel goes after him refusing to let him leave the business. As a result, Cora becomes a target of the cartel and reluctantly, Kent decides to work with her to bring them down.
In working with her, Kent slowly starts to realize that Cora may not be as weak as he thought. There is a strength beneath her that he finds intriguing. And as they continue to work together, they develop romantic feelings for one another. But Kent is not a religious man, and he only relies on himself, not God. Cora, on the other hand, is a deep believer in God and Christ. How can she be with someone who is not a believer? Is there room in Kent’s heart for God? Can he find faith? Do Kent and Cora have a future together?
Jerusha Agen is quickly becoming one of my favorite Christian romantic suspense authors. Before the start of the novel, she cites a verse from 2 Corinthians about emphasizing your weaknesses and how our weaknesses can be used to show Jesus’ strength by us relying on Him. In other words, there is actually strength in acknowledging our weaknesses. This biblical passage entered into my life two other times—in the Bible study I was currently working on at the time surrounding both books of Corinthians and one time at Mass. That is not a coincidence; that is God working in my life through Scripture. The faith component in this novel was amazing. It was deeper to me than other Christian fiction I have encountered so far. I highly recommend reading this novel.
