Hope Fuller is trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. She briefly leaves her apartment in Florida to help her sister, Faith, and her husband, Caleb. Faith is eight months pregnant and Hope is staying in Briar Creek, North Carolina to help out around the house after the baby is born. Hope is an online tutor (with aspirations to teach art) and Caleb helps Hope find an empty office space, so she can have some privacy when she is working. Caleb has a young son, Jack, from a previous marriage that can be a handful. This office space ends up being next door to Caleb’s brother’s, Dylan, office. Dylan and Hope used to be best friends when they were younger. Then, they decided to date, but broke up shortly after that. The rest of the novel involves the progression of Hope and Dylan’s second chance at romance and Hope making a decision about her future career. Will she return to Florida or will she move to Briar Creek permanently?

This was a sweet novel. At first, I did not like Dylan very much, but he grew on me. I particularly liked the subplot of Hope struggling with returning to her photography. She was viciously criticized for her photography in college. Ever since, she has been hesitant to return to her hobby. Seeing her struggle with her confidence in photography was interesting and completely relatable.

About the Author:

Stacy T. Simmons was a mom of two grown children and a wife of thirty-four years. Unfortunately, she passed away while this novel was being published. I hope her family finds solace in this book and God comforts them in their grief.
