Annabelle Richards, who works at a small local bank, witnessed a bank robbery and she recognized the person responsible. As a result, she finds herself under the protection of Deputy Conrad Westhouse, who is taking her to his and his brother’s ranch. Annabelle is not sure how long she is going to stay hidden. She is expected to testify, but Annabelle is scared. The only thing keeping her from bolting right away is Conrad. As she gets to know him, she develops feelings for him. And Conrad is developing feelings for Annabelle as well. But Conrad knows having romantic feelings for a witness is wrong. Do they have a future together or will Conrad and Annabelle have to say goodbye to one another at one point?
I enjoyed this novel, but this novel comes under the Harlequin Heartwarming novels, which normally do not have suspense plot lines. So that was an interesting dynamic. Another unique aspect of this novel was that the brothers’ farm was in the middle of Amish country. The neighbors around them were Amish and often times, these Amish characters provided some much needed wisdom.
It was a great romance with an interesting suspense. The added Amish perspective will captivate readers who already enjoy Amish fiction. I highly recommend it.
